Curriculum Vitae
Prof. Alessandro Maria Bruni (Rome 1978) is Full Professor of Slavic Studies at the University of Naples “L’Orientale”. He has made major scholarly contributions to Palaeoslavistics with a special focus on textual criticism, Cyrillic palaeography and codicology, Historical linguistics, as well as on the comparative study of manuscript traditions in different languages. He has published extensively on the Byzantine and Slavonic Corpus of the Homilies (λόγοι) of Gregory of Nazianzus, including three monographs and several papers in international peer-reviewed journals and volumes. Moreover, he was able to develop new approaches in the study of the Slavonic translations of the Old Testament that made it possible to demonstrate their text-critical value for philological inquiry into the Septuagint and the Hebrew Bible. His method involves a comprehensive investigation of the Slavonic manuscript traditions combined with the study of both their Greek originals and other traditions of Eastern Christianity (such as the Old Georgian). During his career he has received prestigious research awards, such as the "Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship" (2006-2008) and the "Membership" of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, USA (2012–2013). In 2021–2022 he was granted the status of Visiting Scholar at the University of Oxford (Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies and Wolfson College). Since 2023, he has been the Principal Investigator of the research project "The Transmission of Old Church Slavonic Texts", funded under the "PRIN 2022", a grant scheme awarded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
