Participated in numerous archaeological missions in Italy and abroad (Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Egypt, Ethiopia, Jordan, Oman, Turkey and Yemen) dealing with topographic and three-dimensional surveys. He has coordinated some on the application of digital technologies to cultural heritage.
He is the author of two monographs on archaeological documentation and has edited four monographs and published more than 140 papers.

2018 award as Best Paper for the Poster session of the 2018 IEEE International Conference on METROLOGY FOR ARCHAEOLOGY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE, Cassino, October 22-24, 2018 for the paper entitled "A 3D Topographic Network for the Study and Maintenance of the Insula III of Herculaneum."
2020 Award as Ten Best Conference Papers on Archaeological Computing as part of the 2020 IMEKO TC-4 International Conference on METROLOGY FOR ARCHAEOLOGY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE, Trento, October 22-24 for the paper entitled "A parametric model to manage archaeological data."

From 2022 - Leader WP10 Retina, ITSERR project granted by PNRR.
From 2020 - Deputy director of the Italian Archaeological Mission in al-Balid (Salalah - Oman).
2020 2015 - 2016 - Scientific Director of the project "The Great Pompeii Project" granted by the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
2012 – 2015 - Scientific Coordinator of the team of University of Naples “L’Orientale” within the European project 3DICONS (3D Digitisation of Icons of European Architectural and Archaeological). Contract n. 297194, CIP-ICT-PSP-2011-5.
2010- 2021 - Principal Investigator of the project “3D surveys and reconstruction of the Solar Temple of Niuserra”, Italian Ministry of Foreign Offices, Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt.
