Recent research interests
Linguistic interference between Italian and Germanic languages from the medieval period to the present day; language history and historical linguistics in Second Language Teaching, particularly of German; language contact, particularly in German-speaking areas; plurilingualism, intercultural studies and second language teaching/learning.
Other research interests
Old High German vocabulary and glossaries; Germanic onomastics in Italy; Lombards in Italy; Middle German and Early Modern German syntax.

International research collaboration
Since 1995 editor of the ‘Germanismi’ section of the ‘Lessico Etimologico Italiano’ (LEI), a project of the Mainzer Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur, founded by Max Pfister (†) and now headed by Wolfgang Schweickard and Elton Prifti (University of Saarland).
