Savelli Maria Aurora

I am Associate Professor at the University of Naples L'Orientale, where I teach Early Modern History and Mediterranean History. I graduated from the University of Florence, where I also obtained a diploma in Archivistics, Palaeography and Diplomatics (at the two-year School of the State Archives). I also worked at the Archives of the Gabinetto G.P. Vieusseux for several years.
Having obtained my Ph.D. from the European University Institute, Department of history and civilisation, where I was also attachée de recherche, I could initiate ongoing collaborations and teaching experience at various universities. My doctoral thesis received a special mention from the jury at the Prix d’histoire locale européenne “Étienne Baluze”. From October 2018 to May 2020, I was a research fellow at ISEM-CNR, as part of the European Programme Research Infrastructure on Religious Studies.
My areas of interest include the forms of control in urban spaces, popular and women's associations, city rituals and intangible legacies in long diachrony, the didactic use and valorisation of cultural heritage and archives, public history.
I am a member of the editorial boards of “Ricerche Storiche” and “Storia delle Donne”, of the board of the Associazione per la memoria e la scrittura delle donne (Florence), of the board of the Italian Association of Public History, at whose national conferences I have participated and coordinated panels since its foundation.
Since 2021, I have been collaborating with the Istituto Centyrale per il Patrimonio Immateriale (Central Institute for Intangible Heritage) on the “Mappatura delle rievocazioni storiche sul territorio nazionale” (Mapping of Historical Reenactments in Italy) project. Since 2021, I have been the University representative in the Interuniversity Centre for Research and Development of Public History (CISPH).
