Curriculum Vitae
Antonella Sannino, Associate Professor of History of Medieval Philosophy (M-FIL/08) at the Università degli Studi di Napoli L’Orientale (UNIOR), currently eligible for the role of full Professor of History of Medieval Philosophy, received her University degree in Philosophy from UNIOR. She specialized at University College of London in History and Philosophy of Science and at Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici in Naples, receiving her PHD from Università degli Studi in Lecce. She has been Visiting Fellow at the Science History Institute of Philadelphia (2022) and Visiting Professor at Hill Museum Monastic Library Collegeville, Minnesota (2015), Francis Yates Fellow at Warburg Institute of London and she had a post-doctoral grant at Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel. She has participated in several philosophy congresses both in Italy and abroad, she has had numerous scientific appointments also within her own University. At present she is Member of Società italiana per lo Studio del pensiero medievale, the Société Internationale pour l'Étude de la philosophie médiévale and the Società italiana per lo studio del Medioevo Latino. She is chief editor of “Studi Filosofici” (Napoli, Bibliopolis); director of database "Bibliotheca Philosophica Virtualis" (www.bph.eu); member of the editorial Board of Hermes Latinus, Corpus Christianorum Series Latina (Brepols, Turnhout).
Her research focuses on issues and sources of diversified cultural origin (Greek-Syriac-Arabic-Hebrew-Latin-National languages) with particular attention to the multicultural and cross-cultural feature of the Hermetic and Neoplatonic tradition in the Middle Ages and early modern age.
About these subjects she has written several essays. She also produced the critical edition of some Hermetic texts of Arabic origin (Liber de quattuor confectionibus, En pulcher lapis), the Bertold of Moosburg Commentary on Proclus Elementatio theologica (Expositio super Elementationem Theologicam Procli Propositiones 35-65, Corpus Philosophorum Teutonicorum Medii Aevi, vol. VI. 3, Felix Meiner, Hamburg 2001), the De mirabilibus mundi, attributed to Albertus the Great (Micrologus Library’ 41, Sismel Florence 2011). She also edited Italian translations of selected texts from De legibus and De universo on natural and talismanic magic (Micrologus Library’ 89, Sismel Florence 2018), from John Everard’s The Divine Pymander (Naples, Bibliopolis 2022) and a monograph on the philosophy of William of Auvergne (Micrologus Library’ 153, Sismel Florence 2022), which discusses the influence of the Peripatetic tradition, the psychology of the Persian Ibn Sīnā through the ilemorphism of the Jewish thinker Ibn Gabirol’s.
