LAUDANDO Carmela Maria

C. Maria Laudando (PhD Victoria University of Manchester, 1994) is Professor of English Literature. Already Head of the Department of Literary Linguistic and Comparative Studies from 2020 to 2023, she is currently the rector's delegate for research and member of the teaching board for a PhD course in Comparative, Literary and Linguistic Studies and sits in the editorial Board of Anglistica – Aion. An Interdisciplinary Journal, ranked A. She was responsible for the local unit in Naples for two PRIN (2003 and 1999) and P.I. of two strategically important departmental research projects (2019-21 and 2022-24).
She held a number of other institutional positions: Responsible for Student Orientation and Tutoring programs; Delegate for Departmental Research, elected member of the Academic Senate for two terms, President of the Teaching Board of two Didactic Areas.
Her privileged areas cover eighteenth-century studies (with a book on L. Sterne, the translation of W. Hogarth’s art treatise and several essays on J. Swift); female writing and V. Woolf (with a book on her last novel “Between the Acts”); intertextuality and comparative literature; Shakespeare; translation and postcolonial studies, Anglo-Indian narrative (with a thematic issue on Indiascapes for Anglistica – AION 14.1, 2008) and, more recently, the relationships between literary, visual and performing arts, on which she has co-edited several volumes and devoted essays on Kentridge’s work ispired to Hogarth’s “Industry and Idleness” (“Hogarth between London and Johannesburg”, 2021) and to Sterne’s novella on noses (“William Kentridge rilegge Laurence Sterne. Sulle tracce incerte di un naso (s)cortese, 2021). Her latest studies include a couple of essays on A. Desai’s “The Artist of Disappearance” and a reinterpretation of the Swiftian Tale from a posthuman perspective.
