Research fields
Over the past ten years, my research activities have developed primarily - though not exclusively - across the following areas:
1) Popular culture and crime fiction, European identity, and European audiovisual production: the role of locations in shaping a translocal aesthetics and an audiovisual geography of Europe that challenges national stereotypes.
2) Audiovisual media, cultural diversity, and EDI (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion) - both behind the scenes and on screen - with a focus on models of masculinity and femininity. This line of research has been pursued both from a historiographical perspective, exploring the Italian post-war context, and through an analysis of the contemporary Italian, European, and global media landscape. In particular, my work investigates how the development of female characters in investigative roles contributes to renegotiating gender norms and the conventions of the television crime genre in Italy and Europe, in relation to evolving socio-cultural contexts.
3) Online distribution, on-demand culture, streaming media, and processes of disintermediation and reintermediation: how SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) services have transformed the national, European, and global audiovisual sector, including their implications for policy frameworks, production strategies, and consumption practices (both formal and informal, such as file sharing).
4) Literary theory, aesthetics, film theory, and narrative theory, with particular attention to the conceptual tools they offer for analysing contemporary audiovisual and transmedia narratives.
