Giovanni Modaffari (Ph.D., University of Rome “Tor Vergata”) is a tenure-track Researcher (Type B) in Geography at the Department of Human and Social Sciences. He is a member of the Research Committee and of the Academic Board of the PhD Programme in International Studies. His research focuses on cultural and landscape geography, with particular attention to environmental imaginaries, the visual representation of space, and the relationships between environment, society, and media. He has been a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oulu (Finland), within the Biodiverse Anthropocenes programme, and an Affiliate at the University of Oxford (School of Geography and the Environment), where he conducted research on visual methodologies in environmental studies. Previously, he carried out research at the University of Milano-Bicocca and the University of Trieste, collaborating on PRIN national research projects. He is currently involved in the PRIN 2022 project Next-Cities. In 2022, he received the “Giovani Talenti” Award from the University of Milano-Bicocca and the Accademia dei Lincei for his contributions to the history of geography.
