Esplendor y ocaso del caballo napolitano: el virreinato español en las sátiras políticas de Boccalini y Quevedo

Articolo
Data di Pubblicazione:
2021
Abstract:
Since earliest times the horse has been a symbol of the city and then of the Kingdom of Naples. After reconstructing the controversial origins of the emblem, this paper analyses the caricatural transformation that it underwent at the hands of two satirical writers, Traiano Boccalini and Francisco de Quevedo, both of whom aimed to denounce the Spanish misgovernment in the viceroyalty and the oppression of the Neapolitan subjects, each from their own different points of view and for different purposes.
