Abstract:
This research aims to describe the main aspects of the flexive morphology in the Brazilian-Portuguese language (spoken by the lower classes), following the results of the variationist sociolinguistics research carried out so far. In detail, the research will deal with the linguistic phenomenon of agreement violation, that is to say, the lack of agreement in number and person in the noun phrase and in the verb phrase. The corpus used for the research consists in 10 Brazilian movies selected among the audiovisual products of the “Corpus filmico PE/PB Unisalento”, composed of the transcriptions of Portuguese and Brazilian fictional movies and documentaries of the last decades (in progress). This research will analyse in detail the number of occurrences and the specific cases in which the linguistic phenomenon takes place. The agreement violation is typical of the sub-standard Brazilian Portuguese language and it is relevant for the debate on the origins of the Brazilian-Portuguese language and its differences with standard Portuguese. For this reason, the agreement violation is one of the most pertinent case studies from the sociolinguistic point of view, important to provide information about linguistic changes.
