Il Vangelo secondo Giovanni per Eleonora di Toledo: la traduzione del cassiere

Articolo
Data di Pubblicazione:
2019
Abstract:
The paper proposes to assign the italian translation of John’s Gospel for Eleonora di Toledo (Florence, National Library, ms. Magliabechi XL 6) to Michele Ruberti, treasurer and paymaster of Cosimo I between 1537 and 1564. The attribution is argumented on the basis of some information reported in an archival note of 1553. As a result, the paper offers a graphical comparison between the Florence manuscript, a letter to the Duchess signed by Ruberti, and some glosses of the manuscript excerpted from the chronicle of the siege of Florence already attributed to the treasurer, so to show that the similarities among such handwritings might lead to the hypothesis of a same hand. To the graphical analysis some linguistic considerations are made, aiming to stress the originality of the translation and its autonomy from the coeval printed translation of the New Testament.
