abstract:
A comparison of ‘Milagro’ XXII, ‘El náufrago salvado’, with its source, the miraculum entitled ‘Quomodo homo quidam mersus in mare auxilio sancte Marie sit liberatus’, allows us not only to verify the processes employed by Gonzalo de Berceo in his poetic paraphrasis of the Latin hypotext, but also to appreciate how, by rewriting the prologue and the epilogue and profoundly reworking the account of the human protagonist who benefits of the miracle, he aims to construct an organic collection, thematically and semantically structured, according to the allegorical and typological lines outlined in the ‘Introducción’ that inaugurates it.
