Abstract:
The concept of practical rationality in analytic philosophy and its relation with commonsense and evolution. In particular, the paper discusses firstly the theories of rationality of John Searle and Donald Davidson, highlighting their differences with respect to practical reasoning and showing the connection between Davidson's theory and decision theory, conceived as descriptive theories. In this descriptive perspective are also analyzed approaches to decision-making from a naturalistic and evolutionary point of view (Popper, Simon, Papineau). Arguments are advanced for a descriptive concept of rationality, which focuses attention on the language and its resources.
