Abstract:
Documents (such as wills, property transfers etc....) written in Campania in the Lombard period are a valuable source for Germanic linguistic and onomastics studies. In recent decades, due to a different political context and new methodological approaches and technologies in the study of the migration period (Völkerwanderungszeit), research has focused on the acculturation processes of the Germanic nations in the Romance cultural and linguistic world. Latin medieval texts contribute to a deeper knowledge of these processes. This article gives some examples of lexical and onomastic Germanic borrowings and hybrid words and names from Latin sources, which are of interest for both Germanic and Romance studies. The possible role of Late-Greek sources is also mentioned.
