Abstract:
The author re-examines the question of the reconstruction of temple A at Prinias, and attempts a cultural analysis of its abundant sculptural decoration, aimed at the understanding of the global conception of the building. He considers the monument, which the frieze with horse-riders imbues with specific political significance, in the context of Cretan aristocratic society in the 7th century BC, and interprets it as the "poliadic" temple of Prinias, thus emphasizing the close relationship between the evolution of the sacred sphere and the formative process of the polis
