By the end of the course, the student will have harmoniously perfected the 4 language skills (understanding, speaking, reading, and writing). At the same time, the student will have acquired and refined the specialized vocabulary related to digital media and political sciences, along with methodological and linguistic tools that will allow them to approach complex texts, understand their meaning, and argue their ideas regarding them. Within the European Common Framework of Reference, the target of the course ranges between levels B2 and C1.
Level B2: Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue, giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Level C1: Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and naturally. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, professional, and academic purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational structure, connectors, and cohesive devices.
Written and oral exam. The exam will test the 4 language skills, i.e. reading, writing, speaking and listening. The skills acquired during the class will be tested and taken into account.
The course will provide the student with the tools to read, listen, understand, and produce, in written and oral form, complex texts on a variety of topics. The specific focus of the course will, however, revolve around the political sector and digital media. Contents of the class include religion and society,the Arab Spring, war and military operation, the environment, social media, main platforms and the risks linked to social media.
