Overview

Date/time interval

CICLO ANNUALE UNICO (29/09/2025 - 29/05/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

General Objective

The course aims to provide students with an elementary knowledge of modern Turkish, focusing on listening comprehension and written production skills, corresponding to level A2 of the CEFR.

Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding

Students will acquire the methodological tools necessary to read, translate, analyze, and produce simple texts in Turkish, both in written and oral form.

The course is designed to enable students to:

  • Read and understand simple texts related to personal and professional contexts;
  • Produce short oral and written texts on familiar and everyday topics, expressed clearly and coherently.

Additional Learning Outcomes

Independent Judgment

By the end of the course, students will have developed a solid understanding of the agglutinative morphological structure of the Turkish language and will be able to autonomously recognize and use the suffixes studied during the course.

Communication Skills

Students will be able to comprehend commonly used phrases and expressions and communicate basic information and simple descriptions effectively.

Learning Skills

By the end of the first year, students will be able to understand and use everyday expressions to interact in a limited range of situations. They will also have developed the foundational skills necessary to progress to the next level of study (Turkish Language II – undergraduate program).

Course Prerequisites

None

Teaching Methods

The course is delivered through frontal lectures by the professor and language practice sessions conducted by a native-speaking language assistant (CEL).

The acquisition of grammatical elements covered during the course will be continuously monitored through weekly individual exercises.

The course is designed to develop all communicative skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In particular, listening comprehension and speaking skills are enhanced during practice sessions, supported by audiovisual materials

Assessment Methods

The final examination consists of three components:

  1. A digital language proficiency test (multiple-choice/structured format), administered via the Moodle platform, assessing grammar and reading comprehension skills in Turkish;
  2. An oral production assessment, conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams by the native-speaking language assistant (CEL);
  3. An oral interview with the professor, which includes a conversation, the analysis and discussion of a Turkish text, and theoretical questions on the grammar topics covered in the syllabus.

The digital test is graded on an A–D scale, where grades A, B, and C indicate a passing result, and D indicates failure.

Passing the digital test is a prerequisite for admission to the oral production assessment and the final oral interview.

The oral production assessment with the CEL consists of a brief conversation on topics previously covered during classroom practice sessions.

The final oral interview with the professor includes both a conversational component and a theoretical discussion, focusing on the comprehension, analysis, and presentation of a Turkish text, as well as the grammatical content of the course.
