Syllabus

Course Objectives

Acquire awareness of the main thematic nodes of the history of contemporary Italy - social, economic, political and religious - and of their transformations and interrelationships, placing them in the given timeframe, with particular reference to the history of Republican Italy.

The student's ability to grasp the interpretative dimension of historical knowledge and to recognise the historical origins of the complexity of the present will be assessed.

At the end of the course, students will have to demonstrate their ability to orient themselves

autonomously in the historical and historiographical paths covered by the course. He/she/they must also demonstrate the ability to communicate the information acquired and the methodologies of investigation and to have acquired learning autonomy.


Course Prerequisites

A general knowledge of major events and processes in contemporary history from the 19th to the 21st century.

Possible propaedeuticities are indicated in the Didactic Regulations.


Teaching Methods

The course is essentially conducted through lectures that expound, analyse and integrate the contents of the texts indicated in the syllabus. The lectures, however, involve continuous interrelation with the students and make use of audiovisual contributions and digital archives.


Assessment Methods

Examination will take place exclusively orally and in Italian. The exam will aim to assess:

1. the level of knowledge of the course contents (for those attending) and of the reference bibliography (for everyone);

2. the ability to apply the knowledge acquired even to texts not analyzed during the course;

3. the ability to correctly use technical terminology.


Assessment is expressed in thirtieths: excellent (30 cum laude/ 30) very good (29-27) good (26-23) sufficient (22-18) insufficient (< 18).

The evaluation will result from the average of the evaluations defined based on the following criteria:

1. consistency in presentation

2. completeness of information

3. correct use of specialist terminology

4. ability to apply analysis procedures.
