Course Objectives

In line with the objectives set out in the individual programs, al end of course, attending and non-attending students must demonstrate that they have sufficiently learned the main lines of Italian musical aesthetics in relation to Aesthetics in general, musical forms, technical languages according to an interdisciplinary model. A further and fundamental objective expected, consists in the development of a "hearing competence", an objective that will be pursued with guided listening during the lesson. The course aims to provide students with criticalmethodological knowledge and tools for understanding the main themes of Italian musical aesthetics in relation to the historical-cultural issues in which musical forms, compositional techniques, "discourses" have arisen around the production/reception of musical works. In addition, the course aims to develop: advanced specific and historical-philosophical skills in the field of Italian musical aesthetics, for the purposes of teaching and promoting Italian musical culture; the ability to contextualize historically and within the discipline; the capacity to integrate information from diverse sources; independent data and content processing skills, using the fundamental tools of the discipline; the learning abilities necessary to pursue further advanced studies independently, in line with one's educational background. Students should demonstrate a sufficient degree of fluency and clarity in the language skills best suited to the topics and contents of the course. Particular attention will be paid to mastering the specific terminology of the discipline.


Course Prerequisites

Attending and non-attending students must have sufficient in-depth knowledge of general culture in European and especially Italian (ancient and modern) on the example of those resulting from the study of manuals: historical chronology/periodization, currents of thought, relevant authors


Teaching Methods

The didactic activity is organized mainly through direct lessons with reading of significant passages of the scheduled texts, commentary of explanatory materials, listening and video listening. The active participation of students is foreseen with interventions and exchanges of ideas as moments of ongoing verification of the objectives.


Assessment Methods

The exam consists in the oral examination of the knowledge acquired by the student during the course and in the personal study of the texts in the program. Language in which the exam takes place: Italian.

Evaluation criteria: modality, completeness, consistency in the exposition, analytical, synthetic and in-depth skills, relating of concepts, correct use of specific terminology, ability to move in the historical periodization, correct use of the Italian language.
