Syllabus

Course Objectives

Expected Learning Outcomes

The educational path provided by the course is structured to enable students to acquire the theoretical, conceptual, and methodological tools of anthropology that are essential for understanding and interpreting the cultural variety and plurality of human societies. In addition, students will be able to understand the connection between the production of anthropological knowledge and field research.

Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding

Students will be able to apply the fundamental principles of the anthropological approach to critically and relativistically reflect on their own culture, developing skills in listening, understanding, and respecting cultural differences.

Additional Learning Objectives

Independent Judgment

Students will be able to develop independent judgments in understanding cultural, gender, class, religious, and other forms of diversity and plurality. They will also be able to form a critical perspective on phenomena such as racism, sexism, migration, and social marginalization.

Communication Skills

Through the analysis of key concepts such as identity, culture, ethnicity, race, and gender, students will acquire the communication tools needed to discuss relevant contemporary issues.

Learning Skills

Anthropology provides theories and methods for understanding cultural diversity through empirical research and bibliographic research. These tools are essential for critically and consciously engaging with any course of study or professional field

Course Prerequisites

Teaching Methods

The course will be conducted through in-person lectures supplemented by video and photographic materials and is divided into two parts. The first part will provide students with the theoretical and methodological foundations of the discipline, from its origins to contemporary developments. In the second part of the course, specific topics such as gender, food, and the environment will be explored in greater depth.
