Syllabus

Course Objectives

Expected Learning Outcomes

The aim of the course is to develop solid competence in both written and spoken Turkish, along with strong communicative skills at an upper-intermediate level (B2).

Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding

The course offers an in-depth study of grammar and language use through the reading, analysis, and translation of various types of texts.

By the end of the course, students will be able to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, and to produce clear and well-structured texts on a wide range of subjects.

Additional Learning Outcomes

Independent Judgment

By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate independent judgment in analyzing intermediate-level texts in Turkish.

Communication Skills

Students should be able to engage in intermediate-level conversations on the various topics covered during the course.

Learning Skills

By the end of the course, students should have acquired the learning skills necessary to pursue further stages of language study with a high degree of autonomy.

Course Prerequisites

Elementary knowledge of modern Turkish.(A2/B1)

Turkish Language II is propaedeutical to Turkish Language III.

Teaching Methods

Grammar knowledge is achieved through lectures and individual exercises that are assigned at the end of each lesson. In parallel, the course includes the development of listening, comprehension and conversation skills through interactive classes with a native speaker instructor, with the support of audiovisual materials.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a written and an oral test, the former is propaedeutical to the latter. The written test includes exercises in grammar, listening, reading and comprehension within a 30-minute time frame. The oral test is conducted mainly in Turkish and includes conversation; comprehension, analysis and translation of a Turkish text; and discussion at the theoretical level of the grammar covered in the syllabus.

Overall, the assessment is based on the degree of assimilation of grammatical notions, lexical richness, correct use of terminology and more generally on the ability to apply the acquired notions.
