NN - nomen nescio: identidades negadas en los manicomios

The aim of this study is to explore the revolution in the matter of psychiatric treatment protocols represented by the so-called Caracas Declaration of 1990, drafted by the WHO and the PAHO. We will detect the prodromal factors that led to its drafting, as well as its impact on the Chilean mental health reform by analysing the testimonies collected in Eltit and Errázuriz’s book El infarto del alma. It combines both literary and documentary materials that teem with evidence, images, feelings and clues, altogether composing an internal point of view: the patient’s perspective. In particular, we will focus on the case of the unnamed patients (N.N.).
