Abstract:
Satellite broadcasts assist language teachers and learners by delivering constant up-to-date information through a variety of programmes. Thanks to technological advance distance learning audiences instructed via satellite today interact and contribute to educational sessions as in face to face lectures. Moreover, satellite programmes offer an incredible range of opportunities for exposing language students to talk shows, documentaries, news, advertisements, and other communicatively effective exchanges capable of bringing the target culture in class. Literature on satellite educational applications focuses on the importance of teachers suggesting models for classroom applications; however, more interactive models and criteria can be suggested for material selection and articulation. The present paper discusses the use of STV, both as a tool for interactive distance learning and as a source of up-to-date linguistic and cultural material for implementing methodologically sound and technologically sensitive STV units.
