Data analysis on simplexes

Cutler and Breiman (1994) introduced the archetypal analysis (AA) in attempt to produce several “representative” observations for a particular dataset, called “archetypes”, such that the data as a whole can be well approximated by a convex combination of them. The archetypes, by themselves, are also considered being convex combinations of the original observations.
