The present volume is the outcome of a project conducted by the author on behalf of the University of Naples L’Orientale, in cooperation with the Ephoreia of the Dodecanese and the Italian School of Archaeology in Athens. Its purpose is a new and complete publication of the Protogeometric and Geometric necropolis of Ialysos on Rhodes, which was excavated during the period of the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese. The excavations were led from 1916 until 1934 by Amedeo Maiuri, Giulio Jacopi and Luciano Laurenzi in the sectors of the cemeteries of Marmaro (Tsambico Sud, Drakidis Sud and Marmaro 1934), Platsa Daphniou and Kremasti. The graves date from the Late Protogeometric (950-900 BC) until Late Geometric (750-690 BC). The volume contains the following sections: the history of excavations and research (Chpts. 1-2), the classes of materials (Chpts. 3-6), the chronology (Chpt. 7), the burial customs (Chpt. 8), the catalogue of the burials with the list of the grave-gifts (Chpt. 9), a general picture in English (Chpt. 10), the plates, the appendices and the indexes.
