Working in Niger is a privilege. It is so for the Nigerians, who live in the poorest country in the world, which offers few opportunities and precarious working conditions. It is so for migrants, caged by the policies adopted by Niger, promoted by states that today see the migrant as a mere economic object to be exploited or as an "invader" and "thief". And working in Niger has become a real privilege for those who carry out international cooperation and research actions, because from the point of view that Niger offers, the world looks different. A country of historic mobility and transit has turned into one of Europe's new frontiers. Porous, but also too controlled borders, which cause people to stumble, fall, suffer and die in search of a better chance of life. Looking at migrations from Niger means observing the drift of the best legal systems and principles of civil coexistence and cultural and ethical disintegration. Our. "Niger and the new frontiers of Europe" offers a reading of how, in Niger, migration and work are at the same time linked and unrelated concepts, united by a progressive erosion of rights, a reflection of world processes. Through interviews and close encounters with institutional protagonists, trade unions, migrant workers, the book deconstructs the obsession with the African invasion and reminds us of the basic principle that expanding the application of rights does not mean having to take them away from those who already enjoy them, as they dream who rejects the idea of ​​natural human mobility. This is a summary of what is proposed by the texts contained in this volume where the results of a research carried out thanks to the international cooperation project carried out by CGIL, CGIL Emilia Romagna, Nexus Emilia Romagna, Union des Syndicats de Travailleurs du Niger (USTN) are reviewed and expanded. , Trade Union Network for Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan Migration (RSMMS), entitled "Trade Union Focal Points for migration at the FSO". Niger was remembered for its cinematographic landscapes and for the transit of Paris-Dakar or salt caravans, today it has become one of the crossroads of contradictions in the globalized world.
