Guerra, identità nazionale e confine nella geopolitica popolare

The paper proposes a reflection on the evolution of some central themes in the geopolitical analysis - war, nation, identity and border - through the interpretive key of the popular geopolitics. After a short introduction on the approach and its most recent developments, the contribution will focus on the relationship between popular culture and geopolitics, which is a fertile field of study especially at the scale of the United States of America. The contribution will use some examples - adopted from visual representations conveyed by movies, books and TV series - in order to analyze the spatial boundaries, the construction of war narratives (from those which characterized the cold war to the most recent narratives on war and international relations) and the production of national narratives, with particular attention to the link between power and processes of identity construction.
