La peschiera-vivarium di Pietralacroce (Ancona). Aggiornamenti e ipotesi ricostruttive

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2017
abstract:
Thanks to an underwater survey carried on by the Italian Ministry of Culture along the Conero Coast (Marche, Italy), a possible Roman sh-factory was found in the territory of Pietralacroce, not far from the modern city of Ancona. This site, characterized by the presence of ve large tanks excavated in the natural rock of the promontory and of nume- rous channels connecting the sea with several freshwater springs, could be considered as an important element related with the ancient exploitation of marine resources in the Italian Adriatic area, where Roman shponds and sh-factories are an absolute rarity. In this brief report the Authors intend to o er some new inspiration and some archaeologi- cal data obtained during a recent survey on the site carried on by the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, within a broader program of researches dedicated to the study of submerged and partially submerged contexts along the coasts of ancient Italy.
