Entrepreneurship, Markets and trade of migrants in Italy.
The experience of the Naples area
Migrants’ self-employment plays an important role in the transformation of the places
of arrival. This is often produced by the need to overcome the blocking of social mobility
due to the lack of migrants’ real opportunities and/or the recognition of their
skills. This paper investigates the relationship between trade and entrepreneurship
with regard to the migrant experience in the metropolitan area of Naples. It mainly
focuses on the city centre of Naples providing some instantiations of more or less formalised
market areas, as well as the concentration areas of entrepreneurial activity run
by foreign workers.
