Bayle à part entière: le rôle de la correspondance

The new critical edition of Pierre Bayle’s Correspondance edited by the Voltaire Foundation will include the complete active and passive correspondence of the Philosopher of Rotterdam. This wide correspondence is an exhaustive picture of our philosopher and will help to reconstruct the relationship between Bayle and his correspondents of the «Republic of Letters», and to give insights into Bayle’s personal life. It also provides new information on Bayle’s sceptical criticism of philosophical systems – like cartesianism – and on his analysis of historical knowledge.
