I conflict diamonds della Repubblica centrafricana: una nuova sconfitta per il sistema di certificazione di Kimberley?

Capitolo di libro
Data di Pubblicazione:
2016
Abstract:
The Kimberley Process is a joint governments, industry and civil society initiative aimed at preventing “conflict diamonds” – rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance military activity against legitimate governments – from entering the global trade. Supported by the United Nations General Assembly, it created the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), an international certification scheme for rough diamonds. The KPCS imposes extensive requirements on its members to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as “conflict-free”. The article finds that, although this mechanism being subject to several reviews and reforms, it wasn’t successful in curbing the illicit trade in conflict diamonds originated from the Central African Republic.
