Abstract:
The relationship between late medieval legal thought and Renaissance political treatises remains an almost intact field of research. In this paper such issue is tackled focusing the analysis on the concept of rebellion against royal authority. It looks particularly at the connection between Bartolo da Sassoferrato’s gloss on the Imperial Constitution Ad remprimendum (1312) −one of the first examples where this concept is theorized− and a few chapters of the fourth book of De obedientia by Aragonese humanist Giovanni Pontano (ca. 1470).
