A Hebrew Signature in a Latin Manuscript of Galen

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2013
abstract:
Manuscript VIII D 30 in the National Library of Naples, containing Latin versions of some of Galen’s medical treatises, has been unanimously dated to the late 13th – early 14th century. The importance of this manuscript is widely acknowledged, though apparently the existence of a Hebrew signature in it has so far escaped notice. This signature precedes the first Galenic text begins and it is just a name, probably of the owner of the manuscript, possibly a grandson of the philosopher and translator Jacob Anaṭoli.
