Germanisch-Romanische Sprachkontakte im 'Lessico Etimologico Italiano'. Aus der Sicht der Auslandsgermanistik
Chapter
Publication Date:
2008
abstract:
This article explains the necessity for a more accurate analysis of the history of Romance words of Germanic origin. Especially for the oldest Germanic languages which are only scarcely attested, such as Gothic and Lombard, it is necessary to carefully consider all aspects, in order to avoid a wrong interpretation of the data. Thanks to the amount of lexical materials from the Lessico Etimologico Italiano, it is demonstrated that a large corpus, a more objective consideration of linguistic data and the help of the latest results of historical-linguistic research contribute to a better knowledge of the origin and history of Italoromance vocabulary. In some cases, a ‘traditionally’ Germanic etymon will be revealed, through a better analysis, to be a Latin or preromance form.
