Produzione Figurativa d'epoca Achemenide: tra Eclettismo ed Originalità

The author in the occasion of the exhibition held at the National Museum of Oriental Art in Rome in 2001 entitled Antica Persia. I Tesori del Museo Nazionale di Teheran e la ricerca archeologica Italiana, deals in this article mainly with the so-called figurative artistic production of the Achaemenid dynasty. The difficulty in evidencing peculiar traits of this production has led scholars, for this period, to consider dominant an eclectic character combining different ancient near eastern elements. The central questions posed by the author is strictly related to the very lack of archaeological related finds and the presence for the major part of straw finds, in time attributed to Median, Cimmerians, Scythians and Achaemenids etc.
