Mezzogiorno, città e reti urbane: un percorso evolutivo

The essay presents the results of the two years national research entitled "Actors, networks and strategies in the urban Mezzogiorno: a new urban geography of southern regions". The work intends to update the urban geography of the southern regions pointing the main changes that are taking place facing the global scenarios. The cities of Southern Italy are actually experiencing substantial changes in their forms of economic organization, social and territorial cohesion. In the paper the urban change is outlined at a regional scale and in conclusion it is pointed out the importance of the "Italian Southern macro-region" that can be considered as the interconnection between the urban networks of continental Europe and the large weak urban realities of the Southern shores of the Mediterranean.
