Diarii paralleli: Géza Bereményi e Márta Mészáros ‘narratori’ del ’56 ungherese

The Hungarian revolution of 1956 had an immediate impact, both in literary and cinematographic culture, which undoubtedly in Hungary had, precisely in the years of the turning points (that is, from 1945 until the events of 1956-57) undergone changes of considerable importance. Only decades later the Hungarian culture will have the possibility of dealing with a scabrous and taboo subject like 1956 with greater clarity. This article examines the works of two authors, Márta Mészáros and Géza Bereményi, whose first films related to the narration of the events of 1956 were released in the period of political transition of the late 1980s, namely Eldorádó [Eldorado, 1988] and Napló apámnak, anyámnak [Diary for My Father and Mother, 1990]. The discourse of the two directors does not stop at these two works, their attention to the Hungarian revolution will also be felt in later works.
