This paper publishes, for the first time in a detailed way, an Orientalizing limestone lion head, which was found in Phaistos. This head reflects the Neo-Hittite lion type, but it is influenced as well by the Assyrian type. The sculpture could occupy a position of "guardian" of a door of a sacred building in Phaistos
