Abstract:
STRAŽILOVO AND TOSCANA IN THE INNER GEOGRAPHY OF THE YOUNG CRNJANSKI
The author gives an interpretation of the poem Stražilovo considering the process of interior research emerging from young Crnjanski’s “Tuscan” reflections. In the poet’s view, Tuscany, and the foreign land in general (tuđina), represents a pole whose irresistible attractive force implies a proportional recalling force of the zavičaj (the one’s own land), performed in the poem by Sirmio and in the sui generis journey-tale Ljubav u Toskani by the whole Slovenstvo. In Stražilovo, and in the prose work as well, it is possible to observe the same tension between the two geocultural poles catalizing the author’s reflections and the prose text provides both the contest and a key of interpretation for obscure points in the poem.
The structural analysis puts in evidence the key themes of the cultural belonging and artistic creativity. Whereas the belonging is a constitutive and irreversible individual element connected to his/her origin and implicating temporal and physical bounds with all the negative existential marks, e.g. disease, suffering and death, the artistic creativity only could overcome human limits.
