Abstract:
The influence of the Bible in D. H. Lawrence’s writing is evident in his play David, which is a re-writing of the biblical story of David and Saul. A careful parallel textual analysis discusses Lawrence's alterations, in form and meanings, of the biblical text and how the transformations of biblical language are always determined by Lawrence's need to discuss his own ideology, his belief in the recovery of the ancient values and in a new awareness in men of their humanity.
