Between exchanges, interactions, and entanglements. The Egyptians and the others at Mersa/Wadi Gawasis

Capitolo di libro
Data di Pubblicazione:
2024
Abstract:
Mainly used in Middle Kingdom times, Mersa/Wadi Gawasis was the Egyptian port to the land of Punt. The site has yielded several finds related to interactions between Egypt and the regions of the southern Red Sea, on both the African and the Arabian side. It has already been shown that these finds provide crucial information on the economic exchanges and interactions with those regions. Some finds suggest that cultural processes of entanglement were also taking place at Mersa/Wadi Gawasis. This article will discuss some of these finds and the new avenues of research they are opening up.
