Multimodalità e Linguistic Landscape. Applicazioni alla didattica della lingua tedesca

Capitolo di libro
Data di Pubblicazione:
2024
Abstract:
This study explores the potential application of multimodality in linguistic landscape [LL] to the language teaching context. Specifically, this study focuses on leveraging the visual channel through images to offer a novel approach to enhancing the understanding of the German language via the linguistic landscape of a region. Materials from the Linguistic Landscape Südtirol (LLSüdtirol) corpus were employed for this purpose. The corpus consists of 690 photos of signs collected and cataloged in 2022-2023 in Alto Adige/Südtirol, a province chosen for its linguistically complex situation. Working with a diverse range of linguistic landscape elements in the modern urban space can provide foreign language learning groups with a deeper and more diversified insight into the respective language and foreign culture. In the appendix, three instructional sheets are presented for illustrative purposes. Each sheet includes a sign photo that allows learners not only to reflect on the different semiotic components contributing to meaning construction but also to identify types of translation and rewriting in the text-image combination
