Overview

Primo Semestre (29/09/2025 - 16/01/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The teaching is addressed to students of the degree course in "Linguistic and Cultural Mediation" (L-12) incardinated in the Department of Literary, Linguistic and Comparative Studies. The objectives consist in providing students with the basics of “General Linguistics”, which are, moreover, required to deal with the subsequent teachings expected in the career of studies; therefore, the expected learning outcomes refer to the knowledge that the student will have to demonstrate to possess at the end of the Course, consistent with the topics described in the Program and during the Course.

Course Prerequisites

Adequate mastery of the basic structures of the Italian language (grammar, vocabulary, writing, etc.), proceeding to an accurate verification of skills before the start of courses, where necessary. In view of the type of studies chosen, a conscious metacommunicative sensibility is also expected, evidently resting also on a good personal culture.

Teaching Methods

The main teaching method is face-to-face teaching. Students are also informed regarding any in-depth seminars as well as essential or otherwise recommended readings.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a forty-minute written test characterized by open-ended and multiple-choice questions on the topics covered in the course. The lecturer, at the first lecture, explains to students what the exam procedures are. In order to take the exam, it is necessary to make a reservation, through student's personal page, within the time window that opens a few weeks before the scheduled date. Students are responsible for knowing the details of this procedure, as well as other bureaucratic and administrative ones. For example, it is not possible to book off the date, so one should carefully inquire about such procedures. Students registered for the exam are informed in a timely manner by the professor about certain organizational aspects, venue and times of the exam through institutional channels, i.e. mainly by communication via ESSE3 as well as notices on the electronic notice board. It is the student's responsibility to independently and regularly follow these channels. The assessment is based not only on the competence acquired but also on the ability to represent it, therefore, since it is a written exam, it is strongly recommended to cultivate writing skills, sensitivity to the use of appropriate terminology, mastery of grammar, a well-supported vocabulary, and so on.
