Syllabus

Course Objectives

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide students with a general overview of modern and contemporary Iranian literary production, tracing the main developments and literary transformations from the late 19th century to the present day.

Specific aspects —such as women's writing in the post-revolutionary period— will be explored in greater depth, and literary criticism texts in both Persian and Western languages will be used.

Students will be able to apply the literary tools acquired in various contexts, both in research and in the field of translation. They will be expected to critically analyze the literary and socio-cultural dynamics of contemporary Iran from the early 20th century to the present.

Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the course, students must demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main literary movements, authors, and themes of Persian literature from the Qajar era to the present day.

Students must also show they have acquired the methodological tools necessary for critically analyzing the most recent expressions of Persian literature.

Additional Expected Learning Outcomes

Independent Judgment: By the end of the course, students are expected to have developed independent judgment in analyzing various types of literary texts and in discussing the main literary phenomena of contemporary Iran.

Communication Skills: By the end of the course, students must demonstrate that they have acquired sufficient knowledge to effectively communicate the topics addressed during the course.

Learning Skills: By the end of the course, students must show they have gained a solid understanding of the key literary phenomena of contemporary Iran and a high degree of autonomy in addressing a range of literary topics.
