Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (29/09/2025 - 16/01/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The lessons have two main aims: to provide students with a basic knowledge of the history of the Swedish language and culture; and to clarify, through reading easily understandable narrative texts, some basic aspects of Swedish phonology, morphology, and syntax. Lessons will be conducted in Italian and Swedish.

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and methodological tools necessary for the following activities: written and oral production at an A1/A2 level, comprehension of low-difficulty written texts, the ability to report on a text or event, and the ability to complete syntax exercises. Students must also demonstrate knowledge of the history of the Swedish language, recognizing linguistic phenomena from a diachronic perspective.

Autonomy of Judgment: By the end of the course, students will be able to understand the transformations of the Swedish language from a diachronic perspective and relate them to the current use of the language.

Communication Skills: Students must be able to effectively communicate information, ideas, problems, and solutions at an elementary level.

Learning Ability: Students must understand the structures of the language to be able to continue their learning journey.

Course Prerequisites

This course is for students who have no prior knowledge of Swedish. It's important to have a basic understanding of English.

Prerequisites: This course is a prerequisite for Lingua svedese II and Letteratura svedese II exams

Teaching Methods

Teaching activities will consist of 54 hours. Most of these hours will consist of frontal lessons, during which students will gain a foundational understanding of the history of the Swedish language and the basic elements of its phonology, morphology and syntax.

The course also includes practical exercises designed to help students apply their learning. Specifically, there will be four hours of written exercises (two midway through the course and two at the end). Additionally, frequent oral exercises such as conversations, dialogues and discussions will take place for at least twenty minutes per lesson.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a written test, lasting 40 minutes, and an oral exam. To be admitted to the oral exam, students must first pass the written test. The written exam includes a reading comprehension exercise, a written production exercise, and a grammar test covering topics from the course.

The oral exam, accessible only after passing the written one, assesses the student's linguistic competence and knowledge of the course material. Practical exercises with native-speaking instructors are scheduled throughout the academic year and form an integral part of the program. The exam will be conducted in both Swedish and Italian.

Evaluation Criteria: The final grade, expressed out of thirty, aims to ascertain the acquisition of appropriate linguistic and metalinguistic knowledge and skills. The evaluation criteria used to assess acquired knowledge and abilities include: completeness of information, coherence, linguistic correctness and fluency, correct use of terminology, and the ability to apply acquired knowledge.
