Course Objectives

The course aims to provide a basic historical understanding of the Far East and is primarily targeted at students with one or more East Asian languages in their curriculum. The lessons follow both chronological and thematic criteria, with a continuous comparison of the topics discussed, to make the historical development as clear as possible and facilitate learning. The course also includes a review to help the student verify and consolidate their preparation before the exam. The exam consists of an oral interview that focuses on the topics covered in the course.

Course Prerequisites

No

Teaching Methods

Knowledge and understanding can be achieved through participation in classroom lessons. Teaching takes place through the use of the basic textbook, PowerPoint presentations, and regular reviews, with active participation of the students. The lessons follow both the chronological criterion and the thematic criterion, to make the historical evolution as clear as possible and to facilitate learning.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of an oral interview that focuses on the topics of the course. Students must be able to apply their knowledge to a full and in-depth understanding of the dynamics and evolution of the history and civilization of the Far East, and be able to evaluate its distinctive features, also about the cultural differences with their own civilization. An adequate knowledge of the history of the Far East is, in fact, a prerequisite for the preparation of other exams related to East Asia.
