Course Objectives

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

The expected learning outcomes refer to the knowledge and understanding of Public International Law issues. In particular, at the end of the course, studentsmust demonstrateawarenessabout three fundamental functions of Public International Law, namely: lawcreation, recognition and coercive implementation of legal rules, taking into account the evolution of the modern and contemporary international community.


ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

The learning path of the Course aims to provide students with the knowledge and methodological tools necessary to develop the ability to afford the main institutions of the international legal system, its specificities and the content of some material normative dimensions of international law as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to concrete cases.


FURTHER EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Autonomy of judgment:

The teaching aims to stimulate the student's ability to critically address the main issues of International Law and, in particular, their applicative consequences in the investigation of phenomena of international legal system.

Communication skills:

The acquisition of communication skills is stimulated through direct and participatory debates during lessons and seminars and is aimed at the autonomous and critical re-elaboration of the subject by the student with logical-legal rigor and propriety of language.

Ability to learn:

The learning ability, stimulated by supplementary teaching aids (official documents, scientific journal articles and/or sector-specific journalistic insights) and by lessons that will see the active participation of students also thanks to the help of participatory teaching methodologies, seminars and workshops, is aimed at applying the knowledge and understanding acquired on the historical-evolutionary profiles of public international law to concrete cases and to undertake subsequent studies with a high degree of autonomy.


Course Prerequisites

PREREQUISITES

Good knowledge of English is an indispensable prerequisite at the beginning of the teaching activities.

PROPEDEUTICITY: There is no propedeuticity


Teaching Methods

The organization of teaching activities includes the alternation between lectures, in-depth seminars and workshops held by experts as moments of reflection on case studies representative of aspects of the program covered during lectures or current affairs in order to stimulate the ability to apply the cases addressed during the course to concrete cases as well as the use of the legal instrument as a key to analyzing and interpreting the international reality.


Assessment Methods


The exam consists of a single oral exam to be taken during the official exam sessions. Language in which the exam is held: Italian. Evaluation criteria: the elements on which the evaluation will be based are: proficiency of the terminology and legal analysis; demonstration of knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the legal institutions strictly pertinent to the question posed by the teacher; clarity, logic, completeness, conciseness, methodological rigor of the expositions and legal arguments; in order of the conclusions reached, ability to argue them adequately.
