Course Objectives

EXPECTED RESULTS

The Spanish Language III course aims primarily to recapitulate the grammatical and analytical knowledge from previous academic years, while also consolidating the learning and production capabilities of the four macro linguistic and communicative skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) corresponding to the advanced B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course's objective is to provide the theoretical-practical tools necessary to translate texts of various genres from Spanish to Italian.


ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

This course aims to provide the knowledge and methodological tools necessary to recognize, analyze and translate different types of texts, such as literary fragments, newspaper articles, screenplays, reports, as well as to enrich everyday Spanish vocabulary.


ADDITIONAL EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Judgment autonomy: At the end of the course, the student will demonstrate the ability to make the right choices autonomously both in activities of written and oral production and in activities of translation of texts of various nature from Spanish to Italian.

Communicative skills: The student will demonstrate the ability to communicate in Spanish clearly and appropriately, using correct morphology and syntax. The student will also demonstrate the ability to identify, communicate, and rework the contents of a complex text in Spanish of various genres.

Learning ability: The student will demonstrate autonomy in learning and applying the linguistic structures covered in the course and must be able to use analysis tools in the current use of the Spanish language.


Course Prerequisites

Knowledge and understanding of the phonetic, syntactic, morphological, and lexical phenomena of the Spanish language


Teaching Methods

The first part of the course will be focused on reviewing the main syntactic and grammatical rules, thus allowing for the consolidation of learning undertaken in previous academic years. The second part will instead consist of the analysis and translation into Italian of various texts written in Spanish, with particular attention to certain aspects of translation (loans, borrowings, false friends, negotiations, losses and gains, translation methods, etc.), language, and vocabulary.


Assessment Methods

The examination consists of a written test and an oral test. Access to the oral examination is only possible after having taken and successfully passed the written test. The written test follows the structural and thematic line of Lingua Spagnola I and II. It is divided into three large sections (usos verbales, sistema lingüístico y léxico en contexto), with 20 points each, for a total of 60 points, and lasts 30 minutes. In the course of the test, students must enter some answers and not only choose from a multiple selection.


The oral examination is conducted entirely in Spanish and focuses on the texts included in the Reference Texts section (the textbooks, readings and the printed issue of the daily newspaper El País) and on reading, analysis and translation.


The final grade is given by the average of the written and oral grades and is expressed in thirtieths (minimum grade: 18/thirtieths - maximum grade: 30/thirtieths and Honours).
