EMINENTI SLOVENI NELLE OPERE DI REFERENZA OTTOCENTESCHE IN ITALIA

By verifying the presence of significant figures among Slovenian scientists and writers in generalist encyclopaedias released in Italy during the nineteenth century, an attempt is made to document a particular aspect of the image of Carniola and neighbouring areas (the future Slovenia) as they appeared to the Italy of that time. As it is canonical knowledge, diffused by publishing houses at national level, the focus is not on the regions where contact was necessarily more frequent, like the areas close to the borders, but rather on the Italian consciousness tout-court. In conclusion, an overall reflection on these data is then attempted.
