The Art of Political Murder de Francisco Goldman y el policial de no-ficción entre Estados Unidos y Guatemala

This article aims at analyzing the use of Crime fiction in Francisco Goldman reportage The Art of Political Murder and its contribution to a political change in the recent history of Guatemala. The Goldman’s investigative report was not just aimed at finding the Bishop murderer, but above all to criticize the power abuses, impunity perpetrated by the ‘State’ and to detain a common practice for eliminating dissidence. To rich our purpose, we will first focus on theoretical studies about new journalism and nonfiction narrative. We will do this in order to understand how detective fiction is used in journalism and how it can assist in the search for truth. We will then analyze the social power of different typologies of Crime Novel. Particularly, we will point our attention on Ricardo Piglia’s studies to use a Latin-American way of reading such literary genre. Finally, we will read Goldman’s The Art of Political Murder from the viewpoint of Literary Testimonio, in order to analyse how this text can be read according to the Guatemalan and Center American literary context and which can be its contribution to current struggle for identity.
